Sometimes depicted as snake-like, sometimes bipedal, other times multipedal, the basilisk is a legend that goes back to at least the 1200’s. While they draw their inspiration from the same European monster and have clearly traceable roots back to the original legends, the two are very different. Last week at D&D one of my party members was excited to hear that a basilisk had crossed our path… and then immediately disappointed again when the dungeon master pointed out that the D&D basilisk and the Harry Potter basilisk are very different creatures. This week’s monster spotlight won’t be slithering through your school’s pipes and terrorizing children, but I think you’ll love it anyway.
